How to get involved

Learn about the different ways you can make a difference by representing Sussex as an alumni:

Alumni consuls

Do you have a keen interest in Sussex, a desire to meet new people and regular access to email? Then consider becoming an alumni consul.

Alumni consuls are former Sussex students who live outside the UK and act as volunteer ambassadors for the Â鶹´«Ã½ in their home country.

There are many ways you can get involved as a consul, including:

  • answering emails from prospective students
  • helping at recruitment fairs
  • circulating and promoting communications from us, such as invites to events
  • meeting Sussex staff when they are visiting your local area.

Once you've signed up, your name, profile photo and email address will be publicly listed on our alumni and recruitment pages. Prospective students may ask you about your time at Sussex, or alumni living locally might get in touch to see if you're planning any events.

If Sussex colleagues are coming to your area, they'll contact you to see if you're able to advise or offer help on their projects, or to arrange a meeting to update you on what's happening at the Â鶹´«Ã½.

You’ll receive full support for your activities from the Development and Alumni Relations team and the International Liaison team. We can help you with holding an event for local alumni. You'll also have access to an exclusive networking group in Sussex Connect, a consuls toolkit and twice-yearly newsletters to keep you updated. View our current consuls across the world.

If you have any questions contact alumni@sussex.ac.uk.

Gaining international recognition

In 2024, five Sussex alumni were recognised in the national and global Study UK Alumni Awards. Read their stories:

Supporting student recruitment in the UK

Thousands of students visit campus for Open Days and Applicant Visit Days throughout the year and their experience is often enriched by hearing directly from members of our vibrant alumni community.

If you're interested in sharing your Sussex experience by giving a short talk to prospective students, email alumni@sussex.ac.uk.

Notable alumni

Many Sussex alumni have taken their talents and skills and gone on to find great success in their field of expertise. Our notable alumni listing celebrates those in the public eye and leaders in business, not-for-profits and the public sector, who have kindly given their permission for us to talk about them in Â鶹´«Ã½ print and media.

If you would like to nominate a Sussex alum to join the notable programme, we'd love to hear from you. Email alumni@sussex.ac.uk.
