 is the longest-running Trans Pride event in the UK, and is a grass-roots, community-led organisation run by a team of volunteers:

“Our aim is to inspire all trans, intersex, gender variant and queer people to help make a real difference by celebrating trans lives and gender diversity. We aim to educate and eliminate discrimination by promoting equality and diversity through visibility, while also celebrating our unique history.”

Due to its success last year this year will see an experimental, decentralised Trans Pride!  Having outgrown Brunswick Gardens events and activities will take place over four venues: Corn Exchange, Jubilee Square, New Steine Gardens and Dorset Gardens. Events taking place include the Trans Pride protest march, community stalls, acoustic and spoken word performances, a bar and dance tent and much more. In addition to running the annual Trans Pride march, the  also provides a social and support hub all year-round, including a community centre and drop-in and a range of support services for Trans and Non-binary people.

Celebrating Trans Pride at Sussex

As part of the All-Staff Wellbeing Festival on 17 July, the LGBTQ+ and Trans and Non-Binary Staff Networks are hosting a Trans Pride picnic.  The picnic is open to all staff and will take place from 12pm until 2pm on the Meeting House Lawn, or in Arundel Building Room 1B if it rains . The Trans flag will also be flying over Sussex House for the duration of the weekend.

Trans and Non-Binary (TNB) Staff Network

The TNB Staff Network is a confidential and a fully inclusive group, open to all members of staff who identify as Trans/Non-Binary. The network aims to meet monthly for socials, and to discuss and review policy development, as well as organising different events throughout the year.

If you would like to join the network or would like further information you can contact the network by emailing the mailing list transnonbinarystaff@sussex.ac.uk. The mailing list is monitored and – to ensure confidentially – is accessed only by the Chair of the Trans and Non-binary Staff Network. 

LGBTQ+ Staff Network

The LGBTQ+ Staff Network wholeheartedly welcomes trans and non-binary staff members. It is an inclusive group for all LGBTQIA+ staff at Sussex. The LGBTQ+ Staff Network seeks to raise awareness and understanding of issues affecting the LGBTQIA+ community. It aims to share and celebrate the contributions of LGBTQIA+ people and groups, and amplify or echo LGBTQIA+ voices. To join the LGBTQ+ Staff Network, contact: lgbt-staff@sussex.ac.uk.

• Staff can contact a Dignity and Respect Champion, who are there to support staff who want to raise concerns about Dignity and Respect at Sussex.
