Evi Soutoglou wins prestigious Wellcome Trust Discovery Award

Evi Soutoglou, Professor of Genome Stability, School of Life Sciences has won the Wellcome Trust Discovery Award for her groundbreaking research on recombination in G1 preserves centromeric integrity.
The Discovery Award provides funding for established researchers and teams from any discipline who want to pursue bold and creative research ideas to deliver significant shifts in understanding related to human life, health and wellbeing.
Evi Soutoglou said about the award:
“The Wellcome Trust Discovery Award is a tremendous honour, granting us the resources to embark on a groundbreaking exploration of recombination at centromeres. This project has the potential to revolutionize our understanding of DNA repair in these complex regions, shedding light on how centromeric repair pathways influence structure, and ultimately, how repeat variability and mutagenesis impact cell identity and tumorigenesis.”
