If you're teaching or presenting in a lecture room, you can use the microphone mounted on the desk or a lapel or handheld mic.
Lapel and handheld microphones are stored in a secure locker at the front of the theatre which you open using a Salto security card.
There is a stock of spare batteries for the microphones within the locker. Alternatively, some rooms now have rechargeable microphones that are stored on a charging station.
The Salto security cards, which open the microphone lockers, are used widely around the campus. Many staff already use a card to get access to buildings or secure areas.
If you do not have a Salto security card, or need to add microphone locker access to an existing card, you can do so by visiting the SEF Portering page and clicking the 'Request a new access card…' box to download the Access Card Form (docx).
You will need to click 'Enable Editing' at the top of the document when it opens in Word. In the 'Access Requirements' box specify you would like GTS microphone locker access, fill in your details and have it signed by your Head of School/Department or Administrator. Make a note of where you have saved your completed form and email it to ServiceCentre@sef.fm.
Your Salto card will automatically become inactive if it's not used for a few weeks. To keep your card active, periodically scan it against an exterior door access point.
If you don't yet have a card and you need access to a mic, call 01273 678022, or 8022 from the lecture room phone, and one of our support staff will help.
