15 credits, Level 7 (Masters)

Autumn teaching

In this module, you'll look at the key issues in people management and development.

You'll examine contemporary research on employment and effective approaches to human resource (HR) and learning development (L&D) practice.

You'll focus on the links between people management practices and positive organisational outcomes and research that highlights major changes and developments in practice.

You'll also look at the debates surrounding theory and practice in specific fields including:

  • leadership
  • flexibility
  • change management.

You'll develop the skills to become an effective manager, and HR specialist - learning to manage people fairly and increase levels of engagement, commitment, motivation and performance.

You’ll be introduced to the key aims of HR and L&D, and explore how these goals are achieved across different organisational contexts. You'll gain insights into how HR and L&D strategies are applied in real-world scenarios, helping you understand their impact on various types of organisations.

The module also encourages you to critically reflect on both theory and practice from an ethical and professional perspective. You’ll have opportunities for hands-on learning, allowing you to apply your knowledge in practical settings and support your ongoing professional development.
