Advanced Research Methods for Occupational Psychology (103C8)

Spring teaching

The aim of this module is to build on the research methods module taught in the Autumn term. By the end of the taught portion of this module, students should have the appropriate skills and capabilities to understand what is involved in collecting and analysing relevant data using high level qualitative and quantitative methods – for example SEM, meta-analysis, factor analysis, advanced qualitative methods (e.g. IPA, ethnography), using Big Data. Students will not be expected to be able to undertake analysis in each of these areas, but will gain knowledge about the principles behind these, the ethical issues involved, and how to go about planning a research programme using at least one advanced method. Learning will primarily be in lab/workshop based activities and classwork.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 33 hours of contact time and about 117 hours of independent study. The Â鶹´«Ã½ may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
