Summer teaching
This module gives you the opportunity to complete an independent piece of research of 10.000 words on a topic of your choosing, relevant to the themes of
the MSc programme. The dissertation will be 10,000 words in length and may involve either desk-based research (based on secondary data sources) or original empirical study involving primary data collection.
In preparation for your dissertation, as part of the separate Research Skills module, you will receive training in research methods, dissertation planning, and writing and prepare a research outline.
You are also allocated a dissertation supervisor, who will:
- help you prepare for your research
- develop your problem solving solving skills
- supervise your independent research and writing through one-on-one sessions.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 450 hours of work. This breaks down into about 2 hours of contact time and about 448 hours of independent study. The Â鶹´«Ã½ may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
