Reflecting on Professional Knowledge (804X1)

Autumn and spring teaching
This module is delivered over the autumn and spring terms. You will focus on articulating how research, policy and practice from working with colleagues in schools has informed your development, and identify ongoing targets for professional development into your Early Career Teaching.
The module will require you to draw on scholarship and pedagogic theory. You will be asked to evidence how a specific area of pedagogy has informed your practice and impacted on pupils’ learning through a series of ‘learning moments’ over the training year.
Through this focus, you will articulate your understanding of the ITE curriculum and how it has been embedded in school practice.
Through Curriculum Studies and Professional Studies you will be:
- introduced to current developments, initiatives and professional issues in education and in your subject/phase
- expected to critically reflect upon the intersection between theoretical positions, your own classroom practice and observations, and the guidance offered by colleagues.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 60 hours of contact time and about 240 hours of independent study. The Â鶹´«Ã½ may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
