This module approaches development studies through the lens of economics. You'll develop a basic understanding of key concepts and their application in development policy and practice.

In each lecture, you'll study a set of key economic concepts which will then be used in the context of a contemporary development debate. This module focsues on the core intuitions of economic analysis and learning to understand their application in real world contexts.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 44 hours of contact time and about 256 hours of independent study. The Â鶹´«Ã½ may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25.
