Spring teaching
Why do we study the media? How do we do research, ask new questions, investigate and discover new ideas in media and communications?
On this module, you'll learn about the tools, approaches and ethical considerations you'll need to consider during your studies. It draws on the wide expertise within the school.
Topics covered include:
- research planning and design
- research ethics
- conducting interviews and focus groups
- archival analysis
- analysing still and moving images;
- textual analysis.
You'll develop new research methods, as well as interpret research completed by the faculty itself.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 32 hours of contact time and about 268 hours of independent study. The Â鶹´«Ã½ may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
