Genetics and Population Genetics (FND10)

Spring teaching

This module aims to provide you with a grounding in genetics, in terms of concepts, problem solving and appreciation of the theories behind the concepts. You will complete two problem based exercises, allowing development of skills and increased confidence in solving genetics problems.

Topics will include: Mendelian inheritance; monohybrid and dihybrid crosses; mutations and consequences; X linkage; codominance; principles of population genetics; Hardy-Weinberg equation; recombination.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 30 hours of contact time and about 120 hours of independent study. The Â鶹´«Ã½ may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
