Electricity and Magnetism (F3213)

Spring teaching

On this module, you’ll cover topics including:

  • electrostatics: Coulomb's law, electric fields, Gauss' law, electrostatic potential, conductors and insulators
  • electric circuits: DC and AC circuits, Kirchoff's laws, Boolean algebra and digital circuits
  • magnetostatics: Ampere's law, motion of charged particles in magnetic and electric fields, and magnetic forces and magnetic fields
  • electromagnetic inductance: Lenz's law (with applications), self-inductance and mutual inductance.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 44 hours of contact time and about 106 hours of independent study. The Â鶹´«Ã½ may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
